Healing

Healing is for Today!

Isaiah 53:4,5 (NKJV)

4 Surely He has borne our griefs
And carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.

Matthew 8:17 (NKJV)

17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:

“He Himself took our infirmities
And bore our sicknesses.”

1 Peter 2:24 (NKJV)

24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.

These three passages are cornerstones to help us determine that divine, physical healing is for EVERYONE today!

There are those who argue that God does not heal people in modern times. They claim that signs, wonders and miracles passed away with the Early Church and were only performed by the twelve apostles. Once these twelve apostles died, the age of miracles died with them.

However, Jesus did not commission just the twelve apostles to perform miracles of healing. He purchased the right to be healed physically with the thirty-nine stripes laid across His back. Each of these passages avoids the personalities of the Apostles and gets right to the heart of the matter - God sent Jesus to not only be the Sacrifice for sin upon the cross of Calvary; but also, the Heavenly Father sent Jesus to carry our sicknesses and diseases upon Himself. This very fact places divine healing within the realm of redemption and the Atonement.

The Atonement, in it's simplest definition, is the reconciliation of God and mankind through Jesus Christ.The method by which Jesus reconciled the two parties is by His sacrifice. Jesus died in our place for the sins we committed against God. He paid the price we owed God and gave us His good standing with God. We enjoy for free what cost Jesus His life.

In the very same way, Jesus bore a Roman scourge consisting of thirty-nine lashings. I don't rightly think the Roman assigned to carry out this punishment understood his role in fulfilling prophecies spoken by holy prophets eons before his time. He may have been stationed in Jerusalem far from his home. This may have been the opportunity to take out long term aggressions on this "King of the Jews." But, every time that Roman soldier raised that cat of nine tails  into the air and beat it across the back of Jesus, he was guaranteeing for all ages the price for physical healing for all who believe on Jesus as the Christ! Jesus paid the price for your healing and charges us to come and receive freely.

Some may question whether or not it's God will to heal them. These same people seldom question whether or not it is God's will to save them. My friend, when Jesus endured the suffering of that scourging, He was settling that problematic question of God's will to heal for all ages. Why would He send Jesus to endure that sacrifice only to change His mind about you? God wants you well today! God's power is available for you today! God wants you to freely enjoy what Jesus purchased for you.

Dear one, neither salvation or healing are automatic. No one is redeemed from sin simply because Jesus paid the price. We must hear the Gospel, believe God raised Jesus from the dead and confess Jesus as Lord over our sin. Without faith, the sacrifice Jesus made will not benefit you.  We must start today's healing journey with, "Lord, I believe your sacrifice was for me today. I receive your healing provision for me now!"
